on the very first day of her summer break...

The working girl went back to work.

Can you believe they are making me move to the classroom right next door? They are giving my room to the PE Coaches who teach Sex Ed. My bright, cheery classroom will now be stuffed to the gills with adolescents who don't know enough or who already know too much about sex. I liked it better when it was just me and my kids, reading The Giver or writing haikus.

The coaches already invaded my space. Yesterday, my last official work day, as I tried to clean off my desk and organize my filing cabinet, they all sat around and made comments about everything. "You really gonna throw that away?" / "Aww, look at Layendecker, she gonna cry about losing her classroom." / "Yo, Linds, you gonna leave us this desk chair?" / "You know, if we were married, I'd be in here clearing off your desk for another reason."

Needless to say, I didn't get any work done. So it's back to school today for a sexual-harassment-free day of cleaning and organizing and missing my students.

So sad. Why couldn't they just give the coaches the room next door?

P.S. I laughed though when I was reading the comments because to me, I heard New York construction workers being channeled through.

Apparently, my classroom is bigger. It's really not that much bigger, it just has a giant mirror that makes it seem larger. I've also managed to organize it over the four years to maximize the space, but no one believes me about that either. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now!

My coaches are good guys, just a little annoying at times. I'm not going to lie, though, sometimes I like their attention!!

Here was my issue when reading through the coaches' comments: I pictured them all as women. Like, big angry softball coach women. And that mental issue was funny, but working until I got to the part about being married. At that point I just had to shift my paradigm altogether, since Florida is pathetic about progressive legislation.

I'm sorry you had to move rooms. That's traumatic. :(

I survived the move. And although we have some tough lady coaches, our softball coach is actually the man who made the married-desk comment. So, you weren't that far off.
